I have been involved in the performing arts all my life—as a dancer, choreographer, studio owner, and arts administrator. My handbell journey began in a traditional church bell choir and it quickly expanded as I participated in numerous festivals around the country and the world. I have toured with several groups, performed in small ensembles and as a featured soloist. My success is a result of the mentoring received from Handbell Musicians of America Master Teachers, including Christine D. Anderson, Sue Garten, Nancy Hascall, Sueda Luttrell, Michael Kastner, and Kevin McChesney.
Combining my dance training with my love of handbells, I developed my signature style, Music in Motion, and my most requested program, Music with a Message. In addition to my work as a workshop leader and performance coach, I perform as a soloist in full concerts, worship services, memorial services, and at a variety of events for various community organizations.
My workshops on technique and performance topics, combined with an engaging presentation style, make me a frequently requested instructor at local and regional festivals. I have been selected multiple times to serve as a faculty member for the Handbell Musicians of America National Seminar. In addition to teaching at festivals and conferences, I work with individual choirs and aspiring solo ringers, some of whom have earned top honors in regional arts festivals.
I am an active member of Handbell Musicians of America, have been published in their national publication, Overtones, and have been on faculty at National Seminar. Serving on the Executive Board of Directors for both Area 1 (New England) and Area 4 (Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands) I have been instrumental in the planning numerous events for both areas.
In addition to my handbell credentials, I hold a degree in Behavioral Sciences, am a Certified Life Purpose and Career Coach, and an award-winning public speaker.
"Marie is a gifted musician, a very gracious individual, and one who is always easy to work with. Her musical abilities and positive spirit bring joy to every occasion.
